The unemployment benefits available can be related to a previous income, or consist of the basic level of benefit. The type of benefit you are entitled to depends mainly upon whether you subscribe to an unemployment insurance fund (a-kassa) or not.
In order to be eligible for benefits, you must fulfill the basic conditions and the work requirements. Common for both the income based benefit and the basic benefit is that payments are made for a maximum of five days per week, maximum 300 days.
Temporary rules within the unemployment insurance
According to new temporary rules that apply between 13th April 2020 - 3rd January 2021 the income based benefit is maximum SEK 1200 during the first 100 days and the basic benefit is maximum SEK 510.
The income based benefit from day 101 is maximum SEK 1000. This applies for the benefit between 29 juni 2020 - 3 januari 2021.
Also, one membership month is counted as four months between march - december 2020. This means that you already after three months may be entitled for the income based benefit. This applies only to decisions made after April 13th 2020.
If a decision in your case is made before April 13th 2020, the old rule still applies. This means that you need 12 full months of membership to qualify for income based unemployment benefit.
The income based benefit
One part of the unemployment insurance available is a voluntary, income based benefit and is available only to those who are members of an unemployment insurance fund.
In simple terms, income based benefit means that the level of unemployment benefit is determined by both the number of hours worked and the wages paid in a previous employment. In order for you to be entitled to income based benefit, one of the requirements is that you have been registered with an unemployment insurance fund and paying contributions for at least a 12 month period.
The levels of benefit payment are as follows:
- For days 1-100, you can get 80 % of your earlier income, maximum SEK 910 per benefit day.
- For days 101-200, you can get 80 % of your earlier income, maximum SEK 760 per benefit day.
- For days 201-300, you can get 70 % of your earlier income, maximum SEK 760 per benefit day.
Full benefit means you can get maximum 80 % of your earlier average monthly income.
A person who is unemployed and has a child/children under 18 years of age is given maximum SEK 760 per day for days 201-450, but maximum 70 % of his/her earlier income.
The basic benefit
The second part of the available unemployment insurance is the general, basic insurance. This is available to those who are not members of an unemployment insurance fund, or who do not otherwise meet the conditions necessary to be able to claim the income based benefit. If you are not a member of any unemployment insurance fund you should apply to us.
The basic benefit is maximum SEK 365 per day (According to a new temporary rule the benefit is maximum SEK 510 at the moment, read more above). This can be claimed from, and including on, your 20th birthday. In simple terms, the basic level of unemployment benefit is determined by the number of hours worked in a previous employment.
If you are not a member of Alfa-kassan and receive the basic benfit from us, payment will be subject to an administrative fee of SEK 4 per day claimed.
